A man has been jailed after police stopped a car and discovered a range of class A drugs.

Police were driving along Mansfield Road, Nottingham city centre, when intelligence led them to pull over a Citroen C3.

On getting out of the car, the driver was seen to drop a black cloth bag and officers continued to search him.

The search led officers to find and recover a large quantity of suspected class A drugs, which he had hidden in his shoes and around other parts of his body and clothing.

The drugs were later confirmed to be cocaine and diamorphine through forensic tests and officers also recovered a quantity of cash and a mobile phone.

The driver, who after initially giving false details was found to be Aban Ahmed, was taken to custody and officers conducted a search at a property in Independent Street, Radford, where they recovered a quantity of MDMA.

The 33-year-old, of Independent Street, was subsequently charged and pleaded guilty to two counts of possession with intent to supply class A drugs.

Appearing at Nottingham Crown Court on Friday (March 4), he was sentenced to three years in prison.

Police Constable Rebekah Jackson, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “This was great work by officers who, using their instincts and the intelligence they were receiving, were able to stop Aban.

“With the quantity and type of drugs found on him, there was no doubt he was planning to distribute and sell these drugs to the community.

“Drugs activity can have a huge impact. Not only are these class A substances highly illegal, addictive, and likely to seriously impact health, they can also be key indicators of wider, organised criminality.

“This is why we are so determined to stop those involved in drug-related crime and to take robust action when we receive reports or intelligence.

“I am very pleased that officers were very quickly able to take these drugs off the street and stop Ahmed in his tracks, and that the courts also agreed with the seriousness of his actions by giving him a custodial sentence.

“I hope this sends a strong message that we will track down and bring anyone involved in drug-related crime to justice, and I hope this time behind bars will give Ahmed the chance to reflect on his actions.”
