Police say they have stopped a driver who was driving at over 100mph on a “wet” day on the M1.

Derbyshire Roads Policing Unit put out a picture of the speed of 101mph on Saturday, March 5.

They joked that 101 is their non-emergency number rather than a “target speed” and say the driver responsible is set to appear in court.

Derbyshire Roads Policing Unit said in a tweet: “When we say 101 is a simple number to remember, it’s our non-emergency phone number, not a target speed on a wet motorway. Court date to be arranged.”

People on social media thanked police for their efforts and expressed disbelief that it had happened.

“Please be careful and stay safe,” one said.

“A lot of us love the job you are doing.”

Another wrote: “Well stopped chaps!

“Other road users will be better off with him immobilised for a while.”
