It was an emotional morning for Money Saving Expert founder Martin Lewis today, Monday, March 21. Standing in for Richard Madeley to host ITV’s Good Morning Britain alongside Susanna Reid, the financial guru came close to tears after watching an update on the young girl who went viral singing in a Ukrainian bunker.

The presenters were giving an update on Amelia, the girl who captured everyone’s hearts earlier this month when a clip of her singing the Disney Frozen track ‘Let it Go’ while seeking refuge in a bomb shelter was shared online.

The youngster was trying to stay safe while also lifting the spirits of her fellow Ukrainians in a Kyiv bomb shelter, reported Manchester Evening News. She is now in Poland with her grandmother and siblings after fleeing her homeland as Russia’s invasion of the country continues.

On Sunday night, Amelia took to the stage to perform the Ukrainian national anthem in front of thousands of people at the Atlas Arena in Łódź after her Frozen video was watched by millions.

“Now you will remember that two weeks ago seven-year-old Amelia was singing that iconic song from Frozen in a bunker sheltering from the bombardment in Kyiv,” Susanna, 52, said on GMB as the original clip played out on-screen.

“Last night little Amelia, who is now in safety in Poland, sang the Ukrainian national anthem as she opened a major charity concert for her country,” the host added as a snipped off her the girl’s performance was played to viewers.

“It’s a little bit of light and hope isn’t it in a sea of darkness,” Susanna said as she went on to introduce Bradley Walsh and his friend Marcus Costello who is a car dealer and is spending £5,000 of his own money every day to help house 150 Ukrainians refugees in Poland.

Handing over to Martin to carry on the introduction, and with a slight croak to his voice, the MoneySaving expert began: “The real hero has paid for hotel accommodation… sorry. I was so lost by the little girl. I remember going through a period where my little girl was singing Let it Go and she wasn’t doing it in a bunker.

“I was quite moved. I just got distracted for a moment,” Martin added as Susanna sympathised: “It throws you doesn’t it?” to which Martin agreed: “It does.”

“The bravery of a little girl and to be able to do that after everything she’s been through..” Susanna continued as Martin said: “Just quite stunning and you’re right, a shining light, a true star in the real sense of the word,” before moving on to introduce Marcus who appeared via video link in Krakow while The Chase host Bradley spoke from Essex.

Amelia performed at the concert, titled Together with Ukraine, with some of the biggest names in Ukraine and Poland in aid of Polish Humanitarian Action.

The seven-year-old had earlier told BBC Breakfast she wanted to thank people who “enjoyed my singing”. She said: “I practise singing every day in the morning, afternoon and evening… it has always been my dream to sing.”
