Channel 5’s Police Interceptors was back in Nottinghamshire for yet another episode of high-octane chases as officers tailed a Mercedes out of the city at speeds up to almost 150mph. The latest episode of the popular TV show started out following Nottinghamshire Police’s road traffic officers and interceptor team who were forced to initiate a high-speed chase along the A52.

The team covers an area of more than 800 square-miles, according to the show, and officers have some high-spec vehicles to help them cover such a vast area. Dog handler Coups, who was in a Skoda Octavia vRS, was alerted to a Mercedes as he travelled along Derby Road in Nottingham.

A number of units tailed the car as it left the city on the A52. However, once officers alerted the driver to their presence with blue lights, they opted not to stop and drive off at speed.

The show heard how this was the fifth time the driver had failed to stop for officers. Officers almost lost the vehicle as it left the road to travel towards the M1, before mounting a grass verge and travelling towards the A50, where it allegedly reached speeds of more than 140mph.

As a result, the vehicle and driver escaped, with officers opting to stand down for fear over the safety of other road users. The show later follows officers in Mansfield, where Phil Broughton goes undercover to find a man who is fresh on the wanted list, and interceptors Lisa and Jim stop a “dodgy driver” outside Nottingham Railway Station.

The force’s knife crime team is also shown to “prove their interceptor intuition is on the button” as they stop a red light runner with a thing or two hidden in his car. You can catch-up on the latest episode on Channel 5.

It airs each week between 8-9pm on Wednesdays.
