The sunny spell of weather in Nottingham is set to come to an abrupt end as sleet is forecast to fall later this week. BBC Weather expects the shift to come and temperatures to drop as the end of the month approaches.

On Tuesday, March 29, in Nottingham, forecasters predict there will be light cloud and a gentle breeze for most of the day. Temperatures are expect to peak at around 10C, with it staying overcast for the majority of the day – the sun is expecte to make a brief appearance at around 7pm.

It should stay dry though, according to the experts. This won’t be the case on Wednesday, March 29, however, with the day expected to bring sleet and a gentle breeze. This is a far cry from the high temperatures and sunshine seen in the city over the weekend. Temperatures should peak at 5C but may reach as low as -1C.

According to the experts, snow could even reach the south of the country, particularly at higher levels on Thursday and there will be overnight frosts. BBC forecaster Darren Bett told the Mirror Online: “There are some big changes in the weather pattern on the way but not just yet.

“Temperatures in rural areas will not be far away from freezing. Into this week though and this is where we see significant changes not least because we are going to start to see a northerly wind moving down and that will really drop the temperatures. As the high recedes early next week we have got the chance of seeing some rain and then that northerly wind arrives it will be much colder by day and also by night.”

Winds from the north will bring the cold air down the UK through the course of the week with the Met Office forecast for Wales on Wednesday saying that outbreaks of rain could possible mix with sleet and snow over the hills. The forecasting service’s outlook for Thursday to Saturday says: “Much colder than of late with overnight frosts and a mixture of sunny/clear spells and showers, these falling as a mixture of rain, sleet, hail and possibly snow at times.”
