With work well underway for a brand new Aldi off Colwick Loop Road, residents living at a housing development on the same site have said they can’t wait for the new store to open. The new branch of the budget supermarket is being built on Teal Park and the steel shell of the structure is taking shape.

It’s being built at the top of the Rivendell housing estate, situated on land between Netherfield and Burton Joyce, with the latest update revealing earlier in the year at least 220 of the 830 expected houses at that site have already been built. And residents who have already moved into their homes on Magenta Way on the estate can’t wait to see the store open.

Will Hobson, 36, said: “We’ve shopped at Aldi for years, and to have one so close by will be a Godsend, as soon as I heard there was one I thought this is perfect. The area is nice but it’s a building site at the moment while work is finished, there are lots of couples with kids. Our neighbours are nice and friendly.”

Hannah Ransome, 33, said: “We can’t wait, we use the Lidl and Morrisons just down the road, so this will be ideal for us to walk to. Everyone is really friendly around here and it’s such a nice community.”

As part of the Rivendell development, a new pub was planned, but this has now been scrapped in favour of a new building supplies shop. A new school is being built on the site.

Harry Buxton, 33, added: “It’s great, it’s good that kind of thing is popping up here. Everyone is really nice around here and we’re very settled.”
