Owners of a popular cafe have said a fond farewell to customers as they passed on the venue to new owners. Sara Burton and Lia Ward have run Mrs Bs in Long Eaton for the last seven years but say it is now ‘time for a change’ as new owner Derek Chan takes it on.

The cafe will be called A-one Cafe and Kitchen but will still have the same menu, feel and atmosphere that Mrs Bs, in High Street, had. Everything in the day will remain the same apart from the name.

The new owner is, however, planning to open in the evening which will be different compared to the traditional british breakfasts and lunch they serve in the day. They have spoken of plans to serve Japanese and Chinese foods in the evenings such as Japanese-style curry, Hong Kong-style roast crispy pork and Chinese fried noodles.

Mr Chan told Nottinghamshire Live he wants to bring new food to Long Eaton but the cafe will still remain the same in the day. He added: “It’s very exciting and new. I’m feeling happy.

“We are not only new to British breakfast food but we are new to the area. We want to meet new people and become friends. When we see our customers happy then we are happy.

“We want to stick with all the food for it to remain and not change to make all the customers in the cafe happy. We are still planning the evenings but we want to bring new foods to Long Eaton’s people.”

New signage will be put up at the cafe in a few weeks. The former owners will remain at the cafe for the next three weeks for training purposes.

Former owner Sara Burton, 51, says that for her change is needed and she wishes the new owners well. Mrs Burton said: “It will be sad to see but everyone has to move on. I think it’s time for a change.

“Thank you all for supporting us, especially through the pandemic as we managed to keep afloat. The loyalty of the customers helped us so much.

“I wish the new owners the best. I think there’s so much potential in Long Eaton now and I think it will get back up to where it should be. I really hope they do well.”

Former Joint owner Lia Ward, 34, added: “It is very sad we have been serving the people of Long Eaton for a long time. I feel like it’s a part of the heart of the community but that’s what the customers tell us.

“The new owners are lovely and chatty and they know how important the customers are to us. The feel and the atmosphere of the cafe will still be the same and the food will stay the same.

“It is exciting because they are doing something in the evening and will bring something new to the town. Thank you to our customers who have stayed loyal and have come to the cafe.”
