TV star Alison Hammond said she might die “a little bit sooner” due to her weight but hit back at trolls saying she is determined to live “a fantastic life”. The ITV This Morning co-host, 47, is trolled on a daily basis about her size, and while she is planning to eat slightly healthier going forward to avoid getting knee pain, the star refuses to slim down for others, the Mirror reports.

She said: “They do say television puts on a bit of weight though, doesn’t it? Sometimes I look at myself and go, ‘Wow, I am a big girl.’ But I like taking up a bit of space, I’m OK with it.

“I take a little bit of extra space in the world and I don’t think I’m hurting anyone. None of us are getting out of this.

“We’re all going to die eventually. I might die a little bit sooner, but I’m going to live my life to the fullest. And if I do die sooner, I’m going to have a fantastic life. I’m going to have a wonderful life. I’m 47 now, I don’t know how long I’m going to go on for.

“We’re all going to die eventually, but I’m going to enjoy my life. I’m going to eat nice food. I’m going to try to eat a little bit healthier, because sometimes my knees do hurt. So I will try my very best.”

Former Big Brother star Alison is constantly bemused why trolls feel the need to send her hateful messages about her figure. When asked if everyone has ever commented on her weight, she said: “Oh my gosh, everyday. Literally. I’m sure there is a tweet or a message. I saw a message yesterday from someone, along the lines of, ‘I need to lose 40 stone.’ I was thinking, ‘I’m not even 40 stone. That would mean I’d be nothing. I’d be dead.’ Stupid woman.

“I get it all the time. I know I’m overweight, everyone can see I’m overweight. It’s not a surprise to know I’m overweight. Why do people feel that they need to tell me something that is so blatantly obvious? Maybe [they should] think that I’ve probably told myself it 100 times before anyway, so I don’t need anybody to tell me that I’m overweight. Because I see myself every single day.”

But the TV presenter tries not to let the haters get her down, insisting she doesn’t like to “feel sorry” for herself. Speaking to Lorraine Kelly and her daughter Rosie Smith on their What If podcast, she added: “I think I’m really good at overcoming things. I’m an overcomer. It might be difficult, but I overcome it. I’m not going to dwell in that moment of self-pity, or feeling sorry for myself.

“I’ll overcome and go, ‘There are worse things that are happening right now. There are people starving in the world.’ I try and look at the bigger picture and drive on forward.”

Alison shot to fame when she competed in the third series of then- Channel 4 reality show Big Brother in 2002, and she went on to land a job as a reporter on This Morning in 2003. She now co-hosts the brunch-time show every Friday with Dermot O’Leary.
