Feared by the bad, loved by the good – Robin Hood!

Year after year, the much-adored festival in honour of Nottingham’s legendary outlaw attracts crowds from miles around to Sherwood Forest Country Park.

And back in 2003 was no exception, with hordes of visitors enjoying hilarious costumed entertainers, ranging from jesters and jugglers through to street theatre performers, strolling minstrels, archers, experts in medieval combat and even a falconer.

The event also saw the return of countless beloved characters, including Alan A Dale and Festa, Legends, What a Palaver, Singing Plague Victims, and medieval physician Sir Ralph of Epperstone, as well as Grunal the Moneyer and Zebediah the Ratcatcher.

Fresh faces at the time included Pans Pantry and two damsels in distress on a crusade to find their knights in shining armour, as well as The Bandits of Sherwood.

Of course, with this being Robin Hood, archery was very high on the agenda, with the Major Oak presiding over longbow archers the Forest Bowmen – all on hand in full costume to show off their impressive skills and give visitors a chance to have a go, too.

The Medieval Market, first introduced at the millennium, was also back, as was all-round family entertainer Bill Brookman.

A very memorable time was had by all – see if you can spot yourself – or anyone you know – in any of these wonderful photographs.
