A 43-year-old man must sign the sex offenders’ register after an attempted sex offence involving a 12-year-old girl. Garrick Nursey pleaded guilty to attempting to cause or incite the child to engage in sexual activity on July 20, 2021.

Appearing at Nottingham Crown Court, Nursey, of Eakring Road, Mansfield, admitted his guilt and is now obliged to notify police of any change of address. Hal Ewing, representing Nursey, said he had been through the sentencing guidelines with him.

Mr Ewing referred to two medical conditions his client was “highly likely” to have. Mr Ewing applied for a pre-sentence report to be prepared. “Sentencing guidelines suggest immediate custody of some length,” he added on Tuesday, April 19.

Judge Gregory Dickinson QC, the Recorder of Nottingham, asked for the defence’s written basis of plea by May 3, and a prosecution response by May 17. An up-to-date sentencing note must be submitted by May 31, as well as an application for a sexual harm prevention order and psychiatric report.

The pre-sentence report should be completed by June 21, then any defence sentencing note by July 1. The judge said the sentencing, on Tuesday, July 5, should be listed for one hour. He told Nursey to come back to court for the sentencing, stressing: “This is a serious case. The vast majority of cases like this lead to a prison sentence. It is for the (sentencing) judge to decide, not me to decide. Bail will continue today”.
