A woman has hit out as gas cylinders were left in an alleyway near her house over Easter weekend. The cylinders appear to have been dumped in the alleyway off Middleton Street in Radford, Nottingham, on Easter Sunday, April 17.

Ewa Sosnowska, who lives nearby, says she was horrified to make the discovery while out on a walk over the Bank Holiday weekend. She says despite reporting it to Nottingham City Council straight away, the cylinders were still there two days later on Tuesday, April 19.

Ms Sosnowska believes the issue should have been dealt with immediately but instead is not being taken seriously enough. She says this is not an isolated incident – with other items also being dumped in the same spot over the years.

She said: “I usually walk my dog this way and it must have been left sometime between 11am and 5pm. It is a safety hazard and it’s been there for far too long now.

“Over the years there has been bags of rubbish, building materials and broken furniture – all sorts have been left there. It’s really, really annoying. I think that there should be CCTV there or something just to stop people from dumping whatever they like. It’s happening too often.

“People often park nearby and they just decide to litter whatever they have in their car on the street or in the alleyway, then they drive away. There’s a lot of students that have moved into the area and if they dump things or litter then I think their landlords should take some responsibility as well.”

A City Council spokesperson said: “We encourage anyone who spots litter or fly-tipping to contact us so we can deal with it to help keep our neighbourhoods clean and tidy. We’re grateful to residents who report issues like this to us and we will always do our best to remove rubbish as quickly as possible.”

The council says the easiest way to report litter, fly-tips or other antisocial behaviour is online by clicking here.
