Nottingham has reacted to the news that Prime Minister Boris Johnson will face an enquiry over claims he misled parliament. The Labour motion on Thursday, April 21 passed without a vote after receiving no objections, with No 10 opting against tabling its own delay amendment.

The decision means MPs on the Privileges Committee will investigate whether Mr Johnson is in contempt of Parliament for misleading the Commons with his repeated denials of lockdown-busting parties.

Labour leader Kier Starmer claimed Boris Johnson has “lost the confidence” of Tory MPs after they failed to object to the inquiry. He said: “I think the Prime Minister has already lost the trust of the public because he broke his own Covid rules. I think today we saw that he lost the confidence of his own MPs.”

But what do Nottinghamshire Live readers think of the decision to investigate what happened?

Dianne Every said: “Sick of hearing about it, Labour go on a and on about him everyday, more important things happening in our world today, concentrate on that.”

Julie Chapman agreed, writing: “Do you not think we have more to worry about than this? Let them get on with their job at least we are better off than the poor people suffering in the Ukraine – let’s focus on the future. I’m sure there are a few people out there that if honest broke the rules more than once.”

However Steve GoneXow had a different view, commenting: “No, we the people, the people who pay their salaries will not allow it to be swept under the carpet. Honesty and integrity matter if you want to be a leader. What does it say about anyone who would happily turn a blind eye to such fundamental human integrity concerns?”

“What are they investigating?” asked Helen Greenhalgh. “He’s done it, he’s guilty, sack him.”
