Temperatures in the UK will hit higher levels than Spain today, with London set for highs of 17C. The capital will soar to a higher level than in Madrid, the Spanish capital, on April 23, reports Birmingham Live.

However, Nottinghamshire will languish around the 14C mark. In Notts, the Met Office predicts: “Mainly dry and cloudy at first, though some glimpses of sunshine are likely in places. Increasingly bright or sunny by the afternoon but feeling rather cool in the brisk northeasterly breeze.”

But swathes of the south – and the capital – are braced for stifling conditions. It comes as some forecasters are predicting snow before the end of April.

WXCharts has suggested snow could fall Manchester northwards across the early May Bank Holiday weekend. Forecaster Tom Morgan warned that the cold weather isn’t “great news for gardeners”.

He told MailOnline : “They may have spent the weekend planting beneath the sun but we could see patchy frosts by Wednesday which could undo all of their hard work. Some rural spots could drop to -3C through the first part of the week.

“It will feel more spring-like during the day, despite the occasional showers, but not in the mornings or overnight.” It comes after the hottest day of the year so far last Friday, with a high of 23.4C (74.12F) recorded at St James’s Park in London.

Met Office senior meteorologist Marco Petagna said “the main thing is with each day since Friday we’ve seen maximum temperatures just creep down”, adding the end of the week will bring a “cooler, cloudier and breezier picture”.
