Police statement after helicopter seen circling over Nottinghamshire

Police have explained why a helicopter was spotted circling above Nottinghamshire. The aircraft was seen hovering around the Bingham and Radcliffe area at around 7.45pm on Tuesday, May 3.

The helicopter was deployed by the National Police Air Service at around 6pm to assist Nottinghamshire Police with their efforts to locate and track a vehicle. Officers stopped the vehicle in Nuthall Road, Nottingham at around 8.30pm.

A 25-year-old man was arrested and police recovered two firearms and cannabis. Detective Inspector Mark Adas said: “As part of an ongoing investigation officers followed a car which was stopped by police in Nuthall Road, Nottingham, at around 8.30pm yesterday (Tuesday 3 May 2022).

“A police helicopter was deployed and assisted in our efforts to locate and track the vehicle. The driver was detained and when officers searched the vehicle they recovered two firearms and ammunition and a quantity of cannabis.

“A 25-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of possession of a firearm, possession of cannabis and drug driving. “He remains in custody while we continue with our enquiries.”
