Live updates as M1 closed in both directions between junction 22 and junction 21a due to ‘police incident’

A stretch of the M1 has been closed in both directions due to a ‘police incident’. The motorway is shut between junction 22 (Coalville/Leicester) and junction 21a (Leicester).

Leicestershire Police issued a statement advising drivers to take alternative routes. Officers said: “Road closure – M1 between J22 and J21A in both directions. 11am. Please be advised that the above road is closed due to a police incident.

“Please find alternative routes – updates will follow. Thank you for your patience.” Highways bosses confirmed traffic had been stopped on the northbound carriageway.
