A 52-year-old man admitted bigamy at Nottingham’s Council House when he appeared before the city’s crown court. Marcus Wild, of Lord Nelson Street, Sneinton, appeared on Thursday, May 12, smartly suited for a short plea and trial preparation hearing.

He spoke to confirm his name before the allegation was read out to him by the court clerk. He pleaded guilty to bigamy at the Council House during the life of his wife where he went through a form of marriage with a woman on May 5, 2021. He pleaded not guilty to a charge of perjury on November 18, 2020, for the purpose of securing a marriage or certificate of marriage.

No further information was given about the background to the charges. Prosecutor Tim Achurch said: “We don’t seek a trial on count one (the perjury allegation) and it will lie on file”.

David Outterside, representing Wild, told Judge Simon Mayo his client has no previous convictions and is 52 years old and in work. Wild, wearing a pale grey suit and purple tie, was granted unconditional bail before he is sentenced on July 14..

The Judge told Wild: “You can’t be sentenced today. I want a pre-sentence report. I grant you bail”. He said the fact he was granting him bail should not be taken as any indication of the type of sentence that will be imposed, and “what you have admitted is a serious offence”.
