With rising costs, a holiday away in the sun may not be a thing this year. However, sometimes it can feel really good to get back to basics and have a bit of a staycation instead by going camping in the countryside.

But what do you do if an overnight stay in a tent isn’t your idea of fun? Why not consider glamping as it’s a nice mix of the fun of camping without the horror of a leaky tent or sleeping bags?

There are several glamping sites around Nottingham that have a lot to offer. Here is our guide to the best nearby glamping options.

1 – Murino Pods

Agnes Meadow Ln, Kniveton, Ashbourne

The Murino Pods are located in Derby in the middle of the countryside – so much so that the pods are surrounded by sheep and fields. If it’s quiet relaxation you are looking for then this is the best place for it. There are three different pods on site but each are far from the other so you don’t have to share with strangers.

The pods run an honesty shop so you can pick up the essentials – by that we mean marshmallows and sticks for roasting over the fire pit at night. There are plenty of options nearby for a good hearty pub meal too but it’s worth checking out The Red Lion at Kniveton which does an amazing meal and has a lovely cosy atmosphere.

2 – Peacock Glamping

If you are looking for a nice relaxing weekend away then Peacock Glamping in Gunthorpe is a great option. There are hot tubs on-site which are perfect for a post-work soak – just make sure to grab a nice glass of wine and a book while you are there. Not only that but the site has a private lake in which visitors can go fishing.

The pods are very comfortable and nothing beats lying in a cosy bed listening to the sound of rain on the wooden hut. Alternatively, if the weather stays good, which is no guarantee in England, there are sun loungers so you can sit outside and soak up the rays.

3 – Bell Tent Village

Holme Pierrepont Country Park

This is one for a group weekend away as the tents here can fit up to 16 in one tent which makes it a great choice for anyone looking for a hen or stag night option. If you are a seasoned ‘glamper’ who has their own gear then the village also does furniture-free tents where you can set it up yourself to your liking.

There are plenty of options nearby for things to do such as cycling, Trent Bridge Cricket Ground and the National Water Sports Centre. Not to mention plenty of walks and pubs to keep everyone occupied. Children will be delighted with the water sports options and the giant playground.

4 – Meadow Vale Retreat

Hawksworth Road, Screveton

If pods aren’t your thing then why not stay in a yurt? Meadow Vale Retreats offer a number of different size yurts perfect for couples looking for a romantic weekend away or families who want to get away from the city centre.

There is a lot to do locally including Gedling Country Park for walks and relaxation. The yurts also have a communal fire where you can get to know other glampers while you toast marshmallows. The Railway pub in Lowdham is renowned for its food and cosy atmosphere so if communal marshmallows aren’t your thing or you need more of a meal, you can relocate there.

5 – Southwell Retreat

Normanton Road, Southwell

The Southwell Retreat offers luxury pods that have all the home comforts including cosy beds, decent showers and even underfloor heating. Although you may not need that during the summer months, with any luck.

There are also BBQ and fire pits onsite, too, ready for a cosy night under the stars. The pod prices are incredibly reasonable and the team have recently added another pod, Rosy, to the line up so there should be good availability.

In terms of activities, the secluded camping area is just a ten-minute walk from Southwell village. There are plenty of pubs and cafes on offer but it’s worth a trip to visit the impressive Southwell Minster which has been open for 900 years. If you time your visit just right then you may be able to take in an event while you are there including open-air cinema.
