Neighbours living next to a “racetrack” road where motorists drive at a “crazy” speed have spoken out over their fears. The community living on Kimberley Road in Nuthall said they often see motorbikes doing tricks and racing at weekends, while families say that noise can be a problem in the evening.

It comes as Nottinghamshire Police have introduced static checkpoints at several locations across Nuthall to tackle speeding. Some don’t think that’s enough though. Derek White, who has lived in the area for 16 years, said: “The electric signs are more like a challenge to these drivers.

“They race down this road at 60 miles an hour. You can see people on motorbikes, ten of them, racing down the road, even doing tricks.

“It is basically being used as a racetrack. It is very dangerous”, the 66-year-old added.

“It is really bad. The speed they come down here is just crazy. There is a school round the corner as well. It is not safe.”

Priti Sebastian, a concerned mum and quality engineer in the area, added: “People seem to go slower at day time. People give us way when we cross the street.”

However, the situation changes at night, the 34-year-old said. “It causes a disturbance at night because of the noise. Sometimes it is a problem to get my children to sleep because it is so loud.”

Janete Lander, a retired teacher in the area, 67, added: “It is definitely a problem. You see people driving at 40 miles an hour, even over that speed sometimes.

“Most of the time it is all right. But I lived here for 35 years now and I can see how it gets busier and busier.”

Several vehicles were stopped and issued a Traffic Offence Report (TOR) for excess speeding and reported for the offence on Thursday (June 9). This was in response to complaints from the community in the area.

Static checkpoints were set up at several locations alongside Nottingham Road, Nuthall and Kimberley Road. In a statement, Nottinghamshire Police said: “Speeding will not be tolerated on our roads and we will enforce and continue with speed checks and take the necessary action against drivers that are exceeding the speed limits.
