Backlash after NET Trams offers discounts to Nottingham Forest fans

NET Trams have offered Nottingham Forest fans a ‘Forest season tram ticket’ ahead of their first season back in the Premier League in 23 years – but it hasn’t gone down well with everyone. The tram service is offering supporters unlimited tram travel on all home matchdays for the discounted price of £65 for adults or £45 for under 19s.

Compared to buying a single tram ticket each matchday, the new season ticket provides a 27% discount or more than £23 of savings for supporters. However, questions have been raised about why the generous deal is not available for fans of rival club Notts County and also ice hockey side Nottingham Panthers.

Following Net Tram’s announcement on Tuesday, July 5, one bemused Twitter user wrote: “Just because they’re in the Premier League? Why does that give them so much more priority than the rest of the teams & other sports? Don’t think this went your way. Shocking behaviour.”

The view was echoed by others too. NET Tram have responded to calls for wider inclusion to their season ticket programme. The company said that the offer only applied to Nottingham Forest fans “at the moment.”

This came during a Twitter interaction when one person, named Wendy Patrick, tweeted: “That’s disgusting @NETTram! Why would you do that without including Notts fans? And Panthers fans?” To which NET Tram replied: “Only Forest at the moment but our Marketing team is aware of the requests.”

NET Tram also confirmed that images from Forest’s Premier League promotion celebrations in Old Market Square will be displayed on a Nottingham tram.
