A beer festival cancelled by Covid earlier this year is set to return for four days in July. The Hucknall Beer Festival organised by the John Godber Centre and the Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA) will be back from Thursday, July 28 until Sunday, July 31 at The John Godber Centre on Ogle Street.

The festival normally takes place in February but a spike in Covid cases meant that it will now take place in the summer for the first time ever. It will also see the return of the Champion Beer of Nottinghamshire competition which creates a star ale of the festival.

The chosen beer will be labelled ‘unmissable’ and the public asked to sample the brew to check the judges have chosen the best of the bunch.

Nottingham CAMRA is looking for real ale enthusiasts to help them shape the final beer list by recommending beers they would love to see on the Hucknall Beer Festival list. The winning recommendation will receive a festival prize pack which will include tokens that visitors can use at the event. The recommended beer will be added to the festival beer list and the program.

To enter, fans are asked to email reception@johngodbercentre.co.uk or message the Hucknall BeerFestival Facebook page with their brewery or beer recommendations. Entries need to state why it’s perfect for the beer list and the reason for the recommendation.

Kim Pears, John Godber Centre Manager said: “We’re so fortunate to have some wonderful breweries and cider makers in the Nottinghamshire area and we’re looking forward to the return on Hucknall Beer Festival in July and enjoying these across the weekend. Ray has chosen some great ciders from near and far and Andrew is working on the beer list with some special choices lined up.

“We’ve hosted the Champion Beer of Nottingham Competition for a few years now at Hucknall BeerFestival and by asking festival fans for their recommendations it helps to enhance the beer list and is a good talking point that festival fans can see if they agree like they do about the CBoN competition. I’ve got my personal recommendation but there are so many great ales it is difficult to narrow it down”

The Hucknall Beer Festival attracts real ale and cider drinkers from all over the Nottinghamshire area with some dedicated beer fans coming from Cornwall and Manchester.
