Conservative MP Darren Henry ‘still supportive of Prime Minister Boris Johnson’

One of Nottinghamshire’s few remaining Conservative MPs left to say whether or not they still support Prime Minister Boris Johnson has issued just a few words to state he, in fact, does. Broxtowe’s Darren Henry is just one of two MPs in the county to pledge support for Mr Johnson’s crumbling leadership as he faces even more calls to resign.

More ministers have resigned in just one day than ever before in history after the Prime Minister and Number 10 released inaccurate information amid the Chris Pincher row. Journalists were informed Mr Johnson did not know about the groping allegations surrounding Mr Pincher before appointing him deputy chief whip, however it then came to light he did in fact know about it as far back as 2019.

He still appointed him to the position despite this. The row has prompted a spate of resignations, including chancellor Rishi Sunak, and a number of Tory MPs in Nottinghamshire have come out throughout the day on July 6 to withdraw their support.

Sympathy for Boris but many wonder how long he will last – read more here.

Staunch supporters such as Ashfield’s Lee Anderson, Gedling’s Tom Randall and Mansfield’s Ben Bradley have all relinquished their support for Mr Johnson. However, in a remarkable twist, Broxtowe’s Darren Henry has told Nottinghamshire Live he still supports his PM.

He declined to comment any further or answer questions as to why. Earlier on July 6 Tom Randall was asked by Nottinghamshire Live if the PM’s position was still tenable. He replied: “No”.

The only other Nottinghamshire MP to still support Mr Johnson is Bassetlaw’s Brendan Clarke-Smith.

Seventeen ministers have left their roles so far. Mr Johnson has apologised but still refuses to step down.
