Dame Deborah James has said a heart-filled goodbye to her brother Ben, who is travelling to the US today for a long-planned holiday. The mum of two, 40, is receiving end-of-life care at her parent’s house in Woking and has warned Ben that he “must not come back under any circumstances” the Mirror reports.

Deborah has been fighting terminal bowel cancer for five years and has documented her battle to help spread awareness of bowel cancer and its symptoms. Speaking to the Sun, she said: “I have told him they have to go, they’ve planned the trip for ages.”

“I also told him that he must not come back, under any circumstances. He says he’ll come home. It’ll be horrible saying goodbye to him. I can’t really think about that right now,” Deborah added.

Ben became engaged to his partner Ashley earlier this year. Deborah said: “My brother will be the most amazing dad. I am so pleased he is engaged, I love Ashley and they are so happy together.

I have watched him with my kids over the years, and especially recently. He’s that incredible fun uncle, he and Ashley spoil them rotten. And he’s wonderful with his godchildren, too. It breaks my heart that I won’t see their kids, or see the dad he will be,” she continued.

To celebrate Father’s Day, Deborah posted a heartbreaking photo of her caring dad brushing her hair, as she has “no strength” left to do it herself. The post said: “Happy Father’s Day! Yes my dad is brushing my hair because I have no strength anymore to brush this.”
