TV personality Ingrid Tarrant awkwardly brought up Good Morning Britain presenter Kate Garraway’s husband Derek Draper during a discussion on Thursday’s (June 30) show. The ex-wife of Who Wants to Be a Millionaire host Chris Tarrant and mum-of-two Kate were discussing parents over-treating their sons, reports Lancashire Live.

But Ingrid appeared to forget that after complications from Covid, Kate’s husband is bed bound. The former political lobbyist, from Chorley, fell seriously ill after contracting the virus at the start of the pandemic in March 2020.

He is now free of the virus but has suffered long-lasting damage to his organs and requires care at home. Earlier this week Kate, 55, talked about how her relationship with her husband has changed since becoming his carer.

The MBE recipient explained how she has had to find new ways to form a closeness with her husband after “so much has changed”. Speaking on the show about whether mums should stop spoiling their sons, Kate admitted: “I think I might be guilty of this with my son. One of the reasons why is, it feels like the more he grows up, there are so many complicated things you can’t fix for them.

“And so when they say ‘I’m hungry can you cook me a meal?’ or ‘where’s my shirt?’ it feels like something I can fix. It’s like I’m protecting that, in terms of the things I can’t protect them from.”

Mum-of-four Ingrid, who has appeared on programmes such as TV Mail, Wish You Were Here? and This Morning, replied: “A lot of mothers do that, but imagine it was your husband was saying ‘I’m hungry, make me a meal, iron my shirts’. “You’re effectively creating that child to do that later on in life.”

Kate then said: “I mean he can’t do that at the moment, my husband, but he did used to that of course, so maybe I’ve only got myself to blame.” Quickly realising the blunder, Ingrid said: “I know, I’m sorry, I’m so sorry.”

Kate has taken part in two ITV documentaries following her family’s life after Draper’s illness. Despite the difficulties, Garraway has remained positive and said learning to adapt to her husband’s illness has helped her to learn to live in the moment and have a greater appreciation for life.
