Lady Bay Bridge frustration after readers learn road could be closed for months

Nottinghamshire Live readers have reacted with frustration after it was revealed that Lady Bay Bridge may remain partially closed for “a few weeks” or possibly “months.” During an interview earlier today (July 5), Transport and Environment Committee Chairman Neil Clarke said Nottinghamshire County Council were still “in the unknown” following an incident yesterday in which a lorry crashed off of the bridge – causing significant damage.

The bridge has been closed in both directions following the crash and councillor Clarke reiterated the council’s plan to open the bridge in one direction next week. Which direction that will be remains to be seen, but the bridge will remain closed for the remainder of this week.

Now, Nottinghamshire Live readers have responded to the news with some dismay at the length of time it may take to get the bridge back in working order. One reader said that there will be “traffic hell.”

In reaction to councillor Clarke’s interview, Anthony Fletcher commented: “Knew it, this was not going to be an overnight repair.”

Another reader sad: “Here we go again. Close a bridge in Nottingham. Traffic hell. Moan about the lack of more bridges. Do nothing about it.”

Someone else responded: “If so then make it a priority to get it sorted & back open ASAP #simples”

“Hope Trent Bridge doesn’t need to close in those months…” another stated while Crystal Cartier added: “In China they would have had a new complete bridge installed in a couple of days.”
