Drivers on the M1 face three miles of congestion on Friday morning (July 1) following a multi-vehicle crash. Traffic had been stopped in both directions from junction 23a for the A42 (Derby / East Midlands Airport / Tamworth) and junction 23 for the A512 for Ashby Road East (Loughborough).

The incident was first reported at around 6.20am with traffic initially stopped on the southbound carriageway before traffic officers quickly closed the northbound stretch. A lanes have since reopened but drivers have been warned of disruption.

In a tweet, a spokesman for National Highways: East Midlands said: “There’s three-and-a-half miles of congestion south and two miles of congestion north. Thanks for your patience.”
