A man’s body has been found by police following a serious house fire in Nottinghamshire. Fire crews were called to reports of a blaze at an address in Town Street, Treswell.

Nottinghamshire Police were also called to the scene shortly after 11.20am on Wednesday (July 6). Surrounding houses were evacuated as a precaution, the force confirmed.

Roads opened later in the evening. The area remains cordoned off while an investigation to determine the cause of the fire is underway.

A woman was rescued from the property. No injuries were reported as a result of the fire, Nottinghamshire Police reported.

While in attendance at the scene, an officer found a man’s body in an outbuilding. His death is not being treated as suspicious at this time, it has been reported.

Detective Inspector Luke Todd, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “Surrounding houses were evacuated as a precaution and Cocking Lane and surrounding roads were closed while the incident was dealt with. A woman was rescued from the property and no injuries were reported as a result of the fire.

“While in attendance at the scene an officer found a man’s body in an outbuilding. At this time his death is not being treated as suspicious. Formal identification will be carried out in due course and a file prepared for the coroner.

“Our thoughts are with his family and loved ones, who are being supported by specialist officers. Roads reopened last night and a cordon is still in place while an investigation progresses into the cause of the fire.”

In a tweet, Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue said that crews are still on scene. It reads: “Emergency Service personnel are working extremely hard on scene and have been doing so since just after 11am yesterday morning. Thank you to our fire crews who have been dealing with this incident, as well as our neighbouring fire services and partner agencies.”
