Neighbours recalled hearing cries for help in the middle of the night as a man was hospitalised after a serious assault in The Meadows. Police were called to the Barra Mews after reports of an assault at around 11.50pm on Wednesday, June 29.

There was a vast police presence around Thrumpton Drive on Thursday morning, June 30, with five streets being taped off. A 21-year-old man, was taken to hospital with injuries not thought to be life-altering.

A mum-of-two who lives close by said she could hear someone “crying for help” during the night. “There was a crying noise, a boy was crying for help,” the 33-year-old recalled. “The kids were sleeping and there was too much noise so I closed the window. But I don’t know what happened. I’m scared because it’s not good.” She added her young children are also scared.

Another resident, who wished to remain anonymous, said she heard similar. “We heard noise on the street but didn’t see anything. Somebody shouted for help, they sounded in distress. By the time I came out it had stopped,” she told Nottinghamshire Live.

No arrests have so far been made by Nottinghamshire Police, who have encouraged people to come forward with any information. Norma McGibbon, who lives close to the scene, said: “This is ridiculous, it’s so sad. We live in a mad world.”

Michelle Gibb, a 56-year-old Meadows resident, added: “It’s always happening, I’m not surprised. When I first moved in I was shocked. But now I’m not surprised to be quite honest with you. It’s really really quiet day and night.”

Detective Inspector Daniel Johnstone, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “Officers were called to Barra Mews, The Meadows, at around 11.50pm on Wednesday following reports of an assault. A 21-year-old man was taken to hospital following the incident after sustaining injuries that aren’t believed to be life-altering at this stage. An investigation is still ongoing to establish exactly what happened, so we’d ask anyone that has any information that could assist us with our enquiries to get in touch with police immediately by calling 101, quoting incident 874 of 29 June 2022, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
