Scorching temperatures are on their way. Now that may be good or bad news for you personally but either way knowing when the mercury is set to rise is important.
Could we be heading for a heatwave? The Met Office defines a heatwave as “an extended period of hot weather relative to the expected conditions of the area at that time of year, which may be accompanied by high humidity”.
Forecasting for the second week of July, Rebekah Sherwin, Met Office deputy chief meteorologist said: “Temperatures are expected to be widely above average, especially across the south, with some areas seeing maxima in the high 20s, locally 30 Celsius by this weekend.”
So, whether you need to hunt out your fan or dig out your shorts, here’s what the Met Office predicts for the next seven days. As Ms Sherwin says: “Beyond that, the forecast becomes more uncertain and, while it may well continue warm, the extent, magnitude and duration of these above-average temperatures are not clear at this stage and won’t be known until closer to the time.”
