Michael Owen has broken his silence after his daughter Gemma was seen doing lap dance performances in the Love Island Villa. The former professional footballer tuned into the programme on the ‘wrong night’ as he saw his 19 year old dance to get the boys’ hearts racing.
Gemma’s dad has admitted that he had been wary about his daughter signing up to the hit ITV2 show but last night (June 28) was certainly not the best time for him to tune in. The Islanders were tasked with doing a lap dance for their partners in order to get their heart rates to rise.
The Mirror reports that Gemma was one of the first girls to have a go at the dance. She performed for all of the boys but was mainly focusing on Luca Bish who she has been coupled up with for most of her time in the villa.

But from home, Michael watched on and took to Twitter to voice his thoughts on the whole thing. He posted a single emoji on the social media platform, which had a person hiding their face. His tweet quickly got thousands of responses, as fans joked about how it was a bad time to watch the show.
“Wrong night to tune in #loveisland,” one wrote, as another added. “Loooooooooooooooooooool deep breaths my guy.” A third shared: “Watching your daughter strip on prime time tv for a fisherman would have made my heart explode,” as a fourth penned: “Mans walking up to the villa to drag Gemma out like this #LoveIsland.”
Michael previously explained how he didn’t like to see his daughter swearing so much on the show. “One thing I wasn’t happy about, watching the show, was the amount of swearing – and from Gemma too. She said the s**t word (he spells it out), and I was shouting at the screen there. I don’t allow swearing at home,” he explained.
Michael also insisted he trusted her daughter to make “sensible decisions”, despite her young age. “She’s a mature 19. She’s a bit like me in that regard. I was playing for Liverpool when I was 17, and having to make friends with 23, 24, 25-year-olds. The bottom line is, she’s an adult and I have to trust her to make sensible decisions,” he said.
“Gemma only turned 19 in May. Much of the social media obsession about her has focused on her youth. She has had two years more than I had to get ready for life in the public eye.”
