A mum has been left heartbroken after her dog lost all seven of her cockapoo litter. Niketa Hayes, 27, of Ilkeston, claims she was told by the PDSA vets in Derby that her dog Charlie and all the puppies were healthy just hours before hearing the devastating news.

The stay-at-home mum had taken Charlie to the vets on April 7 for a caesarean section, after deciding to get one of her symptoms checked out. Niketa said: “My dog was pregnant and due in about two or three days and she was losing clear mucus from down below”, reports Derbyshire Live.

She continued: “I didn’t know if that was normal or not so I took her PDSA to ask. The vet took her for a scan and he said everything seems fine and all the heartbeats are strong, but we think it’s best if we get a c-section approved.” Niketa signed the paper work and Charlie was taken for a c-section.

“I waited a couple of hours and I didn’t hear anything back from them so I gave them a call and the vet came on the phone and said, ‘I’m sorry to tell you that all seven pups are dead,'” added Niketa.

She questioned the fatalities of the puppies, and claims that she was told that the litter was weak. However, prior to the operation, Niketa was told that all of the puppies were healthy and had strong heartbeats.

A spokesperson for PDSA said: “We’re very sorry to hear about the loss of Charlie’s puppies and would like to send our sincere condolences to her family. Due to client confidentiality rules we are unable to comment on individual cases.

“We aim to provide a caring and professional service at all times, and our vets and vet nurses work to the highest Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS) guidelines and standards. We take all complaints very seriously and would encourage Ms Hayes to contact us directly so that we can discuss the situation with her.”
