With so many top-notch restaurants to choose from in Nottingham, this week saw three of the best battle it out in Come Dine With Me: The Professional. The winning restaurant was The Lobster Pot.

The Lobster Pot, an award-winning restaurant situated on Nottingham’s Mansfield Road, is a “relaxed fish and seafood café offering a varied menu of British and international flavours”. Owners Der and Bee wowed their fellow contestants with an oyster starter, show stopping lobster and king prawn fried rice main, and mango and sticky rice pudding – all with Thai influences.

Other restaurateurs taking part in Thursday night’s Come Dine With Me contest were The Wine Room City’s owner Peter and head chef Bee, and American Annie and Canadian Rena of Annie’s Burger Shack. The competitive group got along well, all things considered.

However, Der almost put his foot in his mouth after making a comment that “men are better chefs” whilst at the table with the all-female chefs. After winning the prize money he joked again: “We just proved that men are still the best chefs.”

The Wine Room City scored joint second place with Annie’s Burger Shack, with 32 points each. Whilst The Lobster Pot blew them out of the water, scoring 37 out of 40.

Der’s softer side came out when Annie, owner of Annie’s Burger Shack, told him she remembered him serving her years ago. She said: “You said that this was your Dad’s place and one day it was going to be up to you to take it over. I remember that kid, you were so proud.”

Recalling his youth spent at the restaurant Der got tearful at the table. Yet the diners weren’t always serious as Annie’s ‘stand-up’ humour had the group in hysterics as she tried out a range of accents.

Head chef of The Wine Room City Bee was quick to congratulate Der and Bee on their “brilliant oysters” but was a little bit of a sore loser. She told the camera: “Joint second isn’t good enough for me, no.”

The new series also tours the restaurants of Glasgow, Cardiff, Newcastle, Bristol, Leeds, Liverpool, Birmingham, and London. Next week the show visits Manchester.

Come Dine With Me: The Professionals airs weekdays at 5pm on Channel 4 and watch free All 4.
