Protestors will be campaigning for the safe release of Aiden Aslin and other prisoners during a protest in Nottingham. The protest will take place on Sunday, June 26, at 10:30am in Old Market Square.

Aiden Aslin, 28, of Newark, was captured by Russian forces in April whilst fighting in Ukraine and has been sentenced to death by a Russian court in the separatist Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR). Fellow Briton Shaun Pinner, 48, appeared in court with Aiden earlier this month, with it being claimed that the pair admitted “training in order to carry out terrorist activities”.

Despite serving in the Ukrainian Armed Forces, both men were tried as mercenaries by the court, and along with Moroccan national Saadoun Brahim have been sentenced to execution by firing squad. The men were told that they had one month to appeal.

Aiden’s grandma Pam Hall, was in Newark on Saturday, June 18, spreading awareness for this Sunday’s protest in Nottingham. Pam told The Newark Advertiser that “We are now two weeks into that month and things look just as bleak. I am stressed, it’s very stressful.

“As a family we can’t believe what’s happening. Aiden managed to speak to his mum Angela last night and appeared very stressed. I can’t imagine what he and the others are feeling.”
