Buildings that have stood on the streets of Nottingham for decades are being torn down

Nottingham is currently going through a burst of simultaneous major construction projects that will change the face of the historic city. These range from area transforming projects like the Island Quarter regeneration to new student accommodation blocks.

Nelson Court, which will be finished in the next two years and host 215 student rooms, is shooting up next to Sneinton Market. Nearby Nottingham’s new Island Quarter is rapidly taking shape, with the first phase of the development, named Canal Turn, set to open later this year.

Meanwhile Halfords on Huntingdon Street has been demolished for 293-bed student flats to take its place. This will add to the growing number of schemes along the main city road.

Behind the station’s car park the vast majority of a new block which will hold 348 apartments is in place. The first 10-storey Unity Square building is now fully open, and there are plans for an even larger accompanying tower just a few minutes walk from a series of new student towers on Traffic Street.
