Police are investigating and appealing for witnesses and information after a man was assaulted. Officers were called to reports of a fight in Independent Street in Radford at around 4.30pm today (Wednesday 22 June 2022).

The victim was taken to hospital. His injuries are not currently believed to be life-threatening or life-altering. Officers were quickly on the scene and are continuing with their enquiries. Alfreton Road was blocked to traffic while investigations took place.

Inspector Asif Mohammed, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “We’re appealing for any witnesses or anyone who has any information about this incident to please come forward. The force takes all reports of violence extremely seriously and officers are working hard to trace those responsible.

“We have increased reassurance patrols in the area while we continue with our investigation. If anyone has any information or concerns I’d encourage them to speak to one of our officers.”

Anyone who has any information about this incident is urged to call Nottinghamshire Police on 101, quoting incident number 537 of 22 June 2022, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

Residents in the area told Nottinghamshire Live what they had seen.

One man, who wished to remain anonymous, claimed he saw a fight outside Hot & Spicy.

“There were three people, all in their 30s. Two people were stamping on one guy, beating him, and then he retaliated.”

Shah Raahadeti, who works at Nottingham Fish Mongers and Food Store in Alreton Road, said: “I was thinking where are all the customers? And then saw police cars drive past. They’ve been here for two or three hours. There are some bad people.”

Mohammed Saleem, who lives nearby, said he saw a man with a bloodied head lying on the ground after the attack.

“I got off the bus and I saw a man laying down and a lot of guys around him,” said the 68-year-old. “There were eight or nine police cars. He had a bandage on his head and I saw him collapse on the street, his head was bloody. There was a big crowd.”

Naseem Mohammed, who lives locally, added: “There are cameras everywhere, on the shops, round the corner and it’s a busy street. You’d thinking something would’ve picked it up.”
