The Times has named a popular East Midlands beach as one of the best in the country. Mablethorpe beach appears third on the ‘Best Beaches 2022’ list for the east of England, ahead of Skegness as well as beaches in both Suffolk and Norfolk.

Mablethorpe is celebrated in the article for having “an immaculate prom loaded with ice-cream vendors, chippies and beach huts for hire from £17 per day”. The Times also said the beach has excellent water quality, despite the fact the seaside town was within the top 10 percent of poorest areas in the country, according to the 2019 English Indices of Deprivation.

The Times said: “Don’t let the grim-looking hinterland put you off. Climb the ramp past the Queens Park Close flats and behold the clean, soft, flat sands of a resort that hides its light under bushels of bingo halls, tattoo parlours and discount megastores.”

Although the beach is already “levelled up”, a £24 million government grant will be invested in developing the facilities for the 15-mile-long wild coast between Skegness and Mablethorpe, as well as giving the town a “facelift”.

The beach is both dog-friendly and accessible and features amenities such as a café and toilets, making it a place for everyone. Everything is overlooked by a lifeguard providing safety for Mablethorpe’s “excellent” waters, which make the local seaside town a recommended tourist destination.
