A popular pub in Mansfield has announced it will close its doors for major investment and renovation. The Widecombe Fair pub on Oak Tree Lane will close on Monday, July 4, and will reopen later in July.

The extensive work planned will refresh the interior of the pub with all-wood panelling and fixtures along with a new fresh colour palette of neutral tones in the building. There are plans in place to install a stove.

There is also an extension set for the bar area which will be upgraded to provide a spacious and modern space for regulars to enjoy. The outside area of the pub will have a major overhaul to create a garden ready for the summer months. It will be extended to offer full table service for 250 guests.

The pub wrote on Facebook: “Have you seen the news?! That’s right – after months of planning, on Monday we’re finally putting down our steak knives and turning down the heat on the grill as we close our doors for a major refurbishment of the Widecombe Fair. But don’t worry – all this means is that you now have the perfect excuse to join us for one final hurrah this weekend before we close our doors on Sunday evening! (As if you needed an excuse!)”

Work is soon to start on the improvements

The pub will also offer a new children’s play area which will be added as part of the investment. It will make the community pub even more family-friendly. Sarah Atkinson, general manager of the Widecombe Fair, said: “Widecombe Fair is such a fantastic, family-friendly pub, and the aim of this refurbishment is to make our already superb offering bigger and better for locals.

“We’ll be reopening our doors in late July, so it won’t be long before you can visit and enjoy our fantastic grilled menu in a new al fresco dining experience in the sunshine.”
