A popular pub will soon start improvement works after the council approved fresh plans. The Rose & Crown on Derby Road, Lenton has recently received permission to construct a new pergola for punters.

On June 7, Nottingham City Council gave the go-ahead for the installation of a covered roof pergola to the pub. However, the pub had to change its plans to relocate from the originally planned location at the front of the pub to the rear.

The planned installation of a 75-inch all weather freestanding TV was also scrapped. A council report stated the pergola had been relocated in order to reduce concerns that it would detract from “the character of the host building which is considered to be of some historic interest”.

A letter of representation received from the Nottingham Civic Society said: “The pergola at the front would spoil the appearance of the front elevation and give rise to unwarranted noise disturbance in the locality through the siting of an outdoor tv. The proposal should not be supported.” After the plans were changed to move the structure and removed the large TV screen, no letters were received to these revised plans.

Staff at the pub previously told Nottinghamshire Live there would be further renovations to the inside of the bar in the future. The large pub is located close to the QMC hospital and offers a range of food and drink, making it a popular student venue.

The pub is next to the Jubilee campus of Nottingham University and also the De Vere conference centre. The pub also offers pool tables, sports screenings and a DJ.

The pub was originally built in 1936 for Shipstones brewery. It is currently part of the Greene King chain of pubs.
