A defendant cleared of the murder of sister-in-law Rachel Hudson – whose body was found in the grounds of Newstead Abbey in 2004 – allegedly waged a stalking campaign against the pathologist in the case 18 years after the killing. Members of Shane Hudson’s family were convicted of Rachel’s murder in 2005 after a trial at Nottingham Crown Court.

Shane Hudson, 36, of Bestwood Road, Bulwell, who has three aliases including “Lord Shane Hudson”, was acquitted of the murder, Nottingham Magistrates’ Court heard on Monday, June 13. Just days after his release from prison for another matter, Hudson is alleged to have stalked Home Office pathologist Professor Guy Rutty MBE, who is the professor of forensic pathology at the University of Leicester, and who was the pathogist in the tragic case involving 20-year-old Rachel Hudson.

The alleged stalking by Shane Hudson was for just over one month – between April 6, 2022, and May 1, 2022, where he made phone calls to the professor’s office, spoke to call operators at the Royal Leicester Infirmary and made threats he was going to the press and would discredit him. .

On one occasion he called the Royal Leicester Infirmary to speak with the professor but was told “no”. Hudson’s reply was that he did not want to visit the professor at his home address and speak to him in front of his family. Hudson apparently called the hospital many times seeking the professor’s email address but was given an address which was incorrect.

He called back to clarify the email address, this time claiming to be a detective, and how we are, “having a ****** busy evening here”. The operator stressed she could not find the address.

Hudson, who has convictions for harassment, called back again, claiming “this is live all over Facebook”, and then tried one more time for the email but, but was told he is going to have to wait until tomorrow, the trial heard. He is told by the operator: “I don’t think you are a police officer. I know a police officer would not talk to me like this. If you want information, I need to know who you are?”

Hudson, who denies stalking and is attending his trial, claimed he was an “independent officer” and the operator told him, “you are nobody then”. He swore as he told her she was an idiot. She laughed and told him to, “get a life”.

Another operator took a call where he claimed he was “James Kennedy”, and said he want to speak to Professor Guy Rutty, and said something like: “If I see this Guy Rutty, I’m going to knock his head off”, and “you need to give me his email address or I’m going to bring ten lorries to the hospital and block it off”.

Three emails were sent from a woman’s address, which Hudson has admitted he dictated, making claims about the autopsy on Rachel Hudson, and how Professor Rutty had 36 hours to contact him and apologise and, if not, “I am making a legal war against you”.

Professor Rutty had never met Shane Hudson, did not remember him from the 2004 investigation and was not aware he had any involvement in it. His statement revealed he did not understand what grievance he had against him.

The incident was reported to police and the Home Office. Professor Rutty described what allegedly happened as, “a totally alien situation for me, one which has affected my whole life, severely affected my mental health. I feel like I am constantly looking over my shoulder”. He is now accompanied by security staff around the whole hospital site and, in summary, “the actions of Hudson have totally changed my life”, read his statement.
