Police have confirmed that a second person died at this year’s Download Festival. It was reported earlier this week that a man who had to be seen by emergency services during the Iron Maiden set on Saturday, June 11 had been taken to hospital but later died.

Police confirmed on Tuesday, June 14 that officers were alerted to another man at 12.48pm on Saturday, June 11. It was thought the festival-goer was suffering a cardiac arrest, Leicestershire Live reports.

The man, who has not been identified, was given emergency medical treatment at the scene before being transferred to an onsite medical centre. He was pronounced dead shortly afterwards, police said.

A spokesperson for Leicestershire Police said: “The cause of the death of the man is currently being treated as unexplained. The cause of death is not believed to be suspicious at this time.” Inquiries into the man’s death are ongoing and a file is being prepared for the coroner, they added.

LeicestershireLive reports that it has been made aware of rumours suggesting more than two people died at the festival. However, when asked for clarification, a spokesperson for Leicestershire Police said a total of two deaths had been reported from the event.

It comes after a man died after becoming unwell at the festival shortly before 9pm on Saturday (June 11), following the Deftones’ performance and moments before rock legends Iron Maiden took to the stage. He was transferred to Derby Royal Infirmary but died the same day.
