The owner of a takeaway that has been given a food hygiene rating of zero says ‘a few silly things’ led to inspectors giving it the lowest possible score. Red Chilli, on Broxtowe Lane in Aspley, opened in May and serves curries, kebabs, burgers and more.
Three areas are inspected by a food safety officer. These are management of food safety, which in this case was rated as ‘urgent improvement necessary’, hygienic food handling, which was rated as ‘major improvement necessary’, and cleanliness and condition of facilities and building, which, again, was rated as ‘improvement necessary’.
The inspection took place on May 17, with the findings recently published. The owner of Red Chilli says the areas which were picked up on by the inspector have all been put right. And the owner is confident of landing a better rating at the next inspection.

Zahid Ali said: “It was all over a few silly things. We’ve already sorted everything now. It was to do with some of the cleaning, but I’m confident we’ll get a good rating next time. We’ve got a Level 2 Food Hygiene Safety Certificate on display. We’ve only been open since May, and we’d just come into the premises when the inspector arrived. But I’m sure we’ll get a better rating when he’s back.”
