Skegness parking changes aim to make it ‘less stressful’ for drivers

New parking signage is set to be installed on the Skegness seafront for holidaymakers to use this summer season. Nottingham holidaymakers can expect the new ‘SMART’ signs to be installed on July 1 which aim to make it easier for day-trippers and visitors to find a space on busy, sunny days on the Lincolnshire coast.

East Lindsey District Council is installing the signs over the next couple of weeks and say they should make it less stressful for motorists as it will tell them exactly how many free spaces are available in car parks across the seafront such as on North Parade and the main foreshore.

The hope is that this system will stop unecessary queuing and a lot of guesswork from drivers not sure on where to leave their vehicles. The popular tourist destination can get extremely busy in the summer months, as holidaymakers flock from the East Midlands and beyond for a trip to the beach.

A spokesperson for East Lindsey District Council said: Several new “SMART” parking signs will be installed in the Skegness area over the next couple of weeks. It is hoped the signs will help make parking less stressful for both our locals and tourists as the number of free spaces at individual car parks will be displayed on the sign.

“Not only will this save time, but it should stop unnecessary queuing and alleviate traffic around the car parks, making the driving experience a lot more pleasant for those parking in Skegness. It is anticipated that the signs will be ready on July 1, 2022 in time for forthcoming tourist season.”
